Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How often will I see you for therapy?

A: Typically, I see people once per week in the beginning.  As improvement is made the sessions will decrease to once every other week, then once per month.  It is a decision made between me and the person when to stop therapy.

Q: If you work with couples do you see them together or separately?

A: It depends on with what they re most comfortable.  If both can be open and honest together they will be seen together.  If they are not each will be seen separately until, or if they want to work with each other in therapy.

Q: Do you work with children?

A: I do work with children and adolescents, but I work mostly with the parents, especially if the child is under the age of 12.  I will counsel with older children if they want the help, but in all cases the parents will be kept informed of the child’s progress and they will be given help in parenting.

Q: I have been depressed most of my life. How do you work with people who are depressed, or even anxious?

A: If the client is under a doctor’s care I will work with the MD to help in the therapeutic process and leave medication concerns to be addressed with the physician.  My training is in the psychological side of depression and anxiety, so I help individuals with their thinking, emotions, and the resulting behaviors. With insight and cognitive behavioral therapy, I have seen significant changes in many clients.  It must be noted, though, that it takes work to resolve depression and anxiety, so the client can’t rely in the therapist to “make” the person better.  The client must be willing to do his or her part.

Q: Do you take medical insurance?

A: We accept many insurance plans. Please contact your insurance company to see if I am a provider for your plan.
